New RISM Project in Colombia

Rondy F. Torres López

Thursday, November 1, 2018

We have received the following announcement from Dr. Rondy F. Torres López (RISM Colombia). English follows:

The hymn “Gloria, Laus” by Valentín Franco

Rondy Torres, Ph.D. in musicology, professor at the Universidad de los Andes (Bogota, Colombia), has begun a new cataloguing project on an unknown archive: the nineteenth-century music from the musical archive of Bogota’s Cathedral (RISM siglum: CO-B).

This collection of about one hundred works contains music from the chapelmasters of the Cathedral of Bogota: Valentín Franco, Joaquín Guarín, Manuel María Rueda… Very little has been written about the musical chapel during the nineteenth century. The cataloguing and study of this repertoire will allow us to expand our view on the musical practice in Bogota during the nineteenth century, a time when musicians used to transit between the church, the theater or the private parlors of houses.

The references of those works will be accessible through RISM’s database and through the university’s digital library, BADAC.
