RISM's Wikipedia Articles Now Updated
Thursday, October 10, 2019
The Wikipedia RISM articles in English and German have been updated to better reflect today’s structure of the project and the focus on the online catalog.
The RISM article is available in a total of 11 languages: Catalan, Chinese, Czech, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish. The Czech article is a recent addition–thank you to whoever wrote that! We encourage speakers of these languages to update the respective articles, and it would also be wonderful to have the article about RISM available in other languages as well.
The Wikipedia articles are important sources of information about RISM for readers around the world. Our website statistics show that the Wikipedia articles on RISM are among top sites that send people to the RISM website. Having a presence on Wikipedia is especially important for the languages that are not included on the RISM website, which is currently only in English and German, with some in French. For an international project, it is vital that we reach people around the world in their native languages.
The Wikipedia articles are read often, as well. In 2018, the RISM articles were read over 7,000 times.
Anyone can contribute to Wikipedia, but it is important to adhere to Wikipedia’s editing rules. The Central Office is happy to assist if you have questions, and we can also help coordinate teams if there are multiple people from one language who want to contribute.
