New RISM Working Group in Asia Founded
Monday, November 16, 2015
RISM is delighted to announce that a new working group in Asia has been founded.
The working group RISM-Chinese Language Region was planned at a conference concerning the Collaborative Project on Chinese Music Resources (CPCMR) held in October 2015, which RISM director Klaus Keil attended. CPCMR was launched to promote the collection of Chinese music literature, to develop technical standards for processing the archive, and to ultimately establish a collaborative network for resource sharing.
Membership includes the following institutions and representatives:
- Central Conservatory of Music Library, Beijing (HO Wing, director, and WU Xu)
- Digital Archive Center for Music of National Taiwan Normal University (HUANG Chun-Zen, director, and TSENG Tzu-Chia)
- Shanghai Conservatory of Music Library (Dr. YANG Yandi, director, and HAN Bin)
- Taiwan Music Institute of the National Centre For Traditional Arts (WENG Chih-Tsung, director, and HUANG Hsin-Ying)
In addition, Dr. Nora Yeh (former archivist of the American Folklife Center, Library of Congress) and Prof. Judy Tsou (University of Washington) have been invited to serve as international advisers and Dr. CHANG Hok-yan (Hong Kong Central Library) will also be a liaison.
RISM-Chinese Language Region joins RISM Japan and RISM South Korea in documenting music sources in Asia. We are looking forward to working together with our new colleagues in Chinese-speaking Asia.
